The Heart Chakra is where Shiva and Shakti meet. It is where masculine and feminine unite, and spirit touches earth. It is here that the inner self and the outer world join forces to create love and compassion. The secret to this energy center is having a deep understanding of the complex workings of your self. By working on the lower chakra's you will establish a strong connection to all the potentials that exists from within, both the shadow and the light, the positive and the negative.
Opening the Heart involves moving from visualizing your possibilities to finding acceptance in them. Only then can you develop compassion and unconditional love for yourself and others.
When we fail to do so, our heart Chakra shrinks. This can manifest in two ways. Those who lack understanding of others become bitter, judgmental and merciless. People in this category have failed to explore their negative potentials and are suppressing or denying their shadow aspects. Because they refuse to see their own possible shortcomings, they also refuse to tolerate those characteristics in others. Mistakes are as important to growth as success. Just as we cannot desire food without experiencing hunger, we cannot know what true happiness and joy is without experiencing contrast. Perfection does not exist in human life, and what a desperately boring life would it be if that were the case. When we experience pain it helps us learn to heal. When we hurt others, it helps us want to become better friends, lovers and family members. When someone close to us dies, it shows us the delicacy of life and gives us a greater appreciation for our own. If we choose to ignore those painful memories, we block the beauty of their lessons and we close our hearts in order to avoid difficulty. It is then that we become false, pretending to be someone who never makes mistakes. In order to maintain our state of denial, we start to look at others misery and relish in our own false sense of righteousness. However, being unauthentic casts out the potential to achieve honest, real spiritual integrity.
Those who lack understanding of themselves become desperate for validation from others, and are needy, drama driven people who fixate on co-dependent relationships. They need someone else to tell them who to be because they have lost who they want to be. When we get caught up in self loathing, we focus on our negative qualities so often that we forget our own power and beauty. Soon, the doubt turns to depression and we wallow in despair, hoping that someone else will come along and save us from ourselves. We play the victim so long that we even feel betrayed by our own mind and body. We punish ourselves with destructive behaviors. In this state, it's easy to forget that we are no one else's responsibility. Everyone has their own lives to live, their own journeys to walk.
Opening the Heart Chakra is what allows you to work with others in your life in a way that is constructive both to them and to you. It is the culmination of the power of desire and will in your personal life, and the start of collaboration. Now you can begin to share your newly discovered gifts and work with others to make your desires a reality. After all, publishing a novel is worthless if no one reads it. Opening a business won't mean much if there are no customers. Learning how to have healthy relationships allows your work to bear fruit and make a difference in the lives of others. Then, you can be at peace knowing your choices in life nourish your spirit and help co-create the world as a whole.
