Mark your calendar and set your alarm - the full lunar eclipse will happen on April 4, 2015. It will begin at 3:16 a.m. PDT and end at 6:45 a.m. PDT. If you live in the Western half of the United States or the Pacific Ocean you will be able to view the eclipse in all it's five minute, glowing red glory from 4:58 to 5:03 PDT.
The rare event is the third such eclipse in what is known as a Tetrad. These series of Full Moon eclipses clustered together are an odd astronomical event. There was not a single occurance from the 17th through the 20th century, yet there will be 8 Tetrads during the 21st. Eight is the maximum number that can occur in a century and there hasn't been a hundred year stretch with this many Tetrads since the 9th century AD!
To top it off, the recent series of eclipses are blood moons and happen during the Jewish holidays of Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles. To make things even more interesting, the last two moons follow Solar eclipses, one of which recently occurred on the Spring Equinox, and the second which will happen on Rosh Hashannah (September 13). Of course all this synchronicity comes with it's fair share of doomsday predictions. The odds are however, that the world will continue on after 2015, just as it did in 2000 and 2012 and every other time someone said it was the end of the world. This is because there is no end. Astrology teaches us all about cycles, and one ending is only the other side of a new beginning. But, that doesn't mean we should dismiss the energy that lies behind all of this as many have. Paying attention to the messages of the stars and the energy of the season can awaken us to many spiritual lessons and personal revelations.
Full Moons are a climax. During the New Moon (which was during the Solar Eclipse on the Spring Equinox last month), intentions are set and seeds are planted for the things you would like to accomplish over the next cycle. During the Full Moon we take inventory, harvest what we sowed and depending on the results cry and scream or jump with joy and celebrate. Eclipses bring a different energy to the mix however. During an eclipse, the earth sits directly between the sun and moon and blocks all light from passing to our lunar companion. Many consider this to be a time when energetic influences are 'let in' so to speak and whisper to our subconscious. Since the moon rules our unconscious thoughts and emotions, it can really do a number on our inner psyche, which is why being spiritually prepared for it and creating an environment of intention, ritual and ceremony is helpful. It's a great time to really dive deep and think about what is influencing us in our life.
Libra is ruled by Venus, goddess of love, which is why the Blood Moon reminds me of love and passion rather than apocalyptic violence. Libra/Venus rule the 7th House of Relationships in Astrology, so this might be a great time to think about how your relationships are effecting the inner dialogue of your desires, drives and goals. Think about your spouse/lover, your best friends, your parents, friends, coworkers and even the strangers you meet on the streets. How are they influencing your life - how do they effect you psychologically and emotionally and how do those aspects affect the actions you take in the everyday, physical world.
