Hey guys! Hopefully you are all having a great start to the New Year. I originally wanted to have this post finished a little earlier in the month but my baby girl was born on January 3rd and I've been in newborn heaven for the past few weeks. All of this newness got me thinking about how I really want this year to go.
Some of you who are into Astrology may have already read my posts on the Saturn Return (here and here) In case you haven't, here's a quick recap. I was born in 1985, which means I have Saturn in Sagittarius. Saturn rules time and boundaries. It also moves very slowly in it's orbit around the sun, and so only "returns" to the sign it was in at your birth ever 30 years or so. Saturn dipped in and out of Sag last year, but is now permanently here to stay until December 19, 2017 (which also happens to be my 32nd birthday). How you treat your Saturn Return years can have a massive effect on your adult life. Turning 30 means it's time to "grow up", figure out what direction you want to take, settle down and get to business. It's full of trials and tribulations, but those who pass the gauntlet will often find success, after being tempered in the fires of Father Time. It was in December of 2014 that Saturn first started flirting with Sagittarius, and that is also when I started this blog. It was a great first step, but now it's time to step it up in a major way.
I believe strongly in our ability to create our own reality, the power of manifestation, the law of attraction, however you prefer to describe it. Because of that, I like to put myself out on there in hopes that a little public accountability will drive me to achieve my desires. So, I'm laying it all out on the table.
The Overarching Goal: Make Blogging My Main Source of Income
When I had my son five years ago, I went back to work after three weeks. I was horribly resentful that I had to leave my new baby so soon. Things are better this time around. My marriage is stronger than ever, we're living by the beach, and right now I'm able to take a three month break before finances will force me back to my barista life. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind slinging latte's for a few more years until I finish my master's degree, but at around $8 an hour, it's not really working out for me anymore. I'm a big girl now, and I have two kids, and I need a better way to make a living.
For a long time, I had an issue with monetizing my blog. I put one or two affiliate links in the sidebar, but I didn't want to actively try and make money from my website. It was a passion of mine and I was afraid that making money at it would "cheapen" the work or it would feel like selling out. Well, I've worked really hard on my money mindset over the past year and though it hasn't been easy, I'm finally at a place in my life where I feel that it's okay for me to provide for my family in a way that also feeds my soul. I don't have to slug it out making minimum wage just because I'm afraid. And that's really what has stopped me all these years - fear of the unknown, fear of success, fear of failure, fear, fear, fear. My overall healing process has involved a lot of shedding my tendancy toward fear based thinking - and embracing self love and positive vibes. So, I'm finally applying that toward my passion for this blog and giving it my full effort. Being able to earn my living at home will open up so many opportunities for me as a writer, as an entreprenuer, as a spiritual seeker and most importantly as a mom.
I can't do any of that if I don't give myself a chance to really go after my dreams. And 2016 is the year I will finally set myself free.
I realize that achieving this large goal will take a lot of small steps. I know it won't happen overnight, and I know just how hard I will have to work to make it happen.
Here's a breakdown of how I plan to do it:
Consistently Post 3 Times per Week
Grow my Audience
Create Great Content
Start a Community for Like Minded Women (through my other site Avalon Gypsy)
Monetize My Site
So you guys are going to see a few changes around here, and hopefully you all understand my reasons for doing so. I'm ready to take this blog to the next level and I would love it if you would join me in my adventure.
If you're a blogger, I've created a Planner for myself to help keep track of all this! Click the image below and subscribe to download instantly. I decided to give it away for free because I want to support you in your dreams as well. Let me know if you like it!
